Casting director Lynn Kressel sent out this call for casting Lonesome Dove. Kressel also kept the film's producers updated on the availability of various actors under consideration, and managed the offers made to the actors. Additional "location" casting for Lonesome Dove was coordinated by Liz Keigley. Final casting decisions were made by CBS executives and executive producer Bill Wittliff, with input from Kressel, producer Dyson Lovell, and co-executive producer Suzanne de Passe.
